Tehachapi Police Department receives pet mircochip scanner from Humane Society

Lost pets in Tehachapi could be reunited with their owners sooner thanks to a donation.

Have a Heart Humane Society in Tehachapi donated a microchip scanner to the Tehachapi Police Department.

Microchips are implanted into pets for the purpose of easily identifying them when lost.

In a statement, Tehachapi Police Chief Kent Kroeger said officers would bring dogs to the Tehachapi Police Department while waiting for Animal Control to respond which could take several hours, sometimes not until the next day.

"Having this scanner will help us expedite getting lost pets back to their owners and as an investigative tool for stolen pet cases," Kroeger said.

With the scanner in the department, officers will be able to identify microchipped animals and returned to their owners sooner without having pets being put in a shelter.
