Help Harvey victims by giving blood

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Houchin Community Blood Bank officials said they shipped an ample supply of blood products to help in the hurricane aftermath.

Now, officials said they're getting word from Texas that there is a desperate need for Type O negative blood and platelets from all blood types.

In addition to sending supplies to hurricane victims, Houchin said we need to re-stock the shelves here locally.

No appointment is needed to donate blood, but it helps. However, appointments are needed to donate platelets or plasma.

To make an appointment, you can call 616-2505.

You can visit either donor location at 5901 Truxtun Avenue or at 11515 Bolthouse Drive.
