32nd District race too close to call

The race between Bakersfield City Councilman Rudy Salas and local business owner Pedro Rios is too close to call.
The highly-publicized race for the 32nd District Assembly seat is too close to call this morning. It's the race between Bakersfield City Councilman Rudy Salas and local business owner Pedro Rios.

Right now, Salas is winning by a small margin - just a few hundred votes - but with absentee ballots still being counted, it could still change.

Salas, a Democrat, is the first Hispanic to serve on the city council. Rios, a Republican, is a former teacher and vice principal who served on the Delano City Council for eight years.

If Salas wins, the city council would either have a special election to fill his seat or appoint someone new to council.
