Speed may be to blame for a deadly crash on Highway 99 Sunday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Bakersfield man lost control of his Camaro, and crashed into a tree.
The accident happened just before 12 p.m. on Highway 99.
The CHP says 66-year-old Ivy Whitmire was speeding when he got on the onramp from White Lane. According to witnesses, he was going over 80 miles per hour.
The CHP reports Whitmire veered across the highway, lost control, and crashed into a tree and died. No one else was hurt.
Officers say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
