College president seriously injured, grandson killed in crash

A college president with strong ties to Kern County was seriously injured in a deadly crash southeast of Tehachapi on Sunday.
MOJAVE, CA - A college president with strong ties to Kern County was seriously injured in a deadly crash southeast of Tehachapi on Sunday.

The Antelope Valley Times reports Antelope Valley College President Dr. Jackie Fisher suffered major injuries when his car was broadsided by a dump truck that failed to yield at a stop sign.

Fisher's 6-year-old grandson Nickolas Smith was a passenger and died. Fisher's wife and a 10-year-old girl were seriously hurt.

Prior to his academic career, Fisher was a Kern County firefighter and he taught fire technology at Bakersfield College for 11 years.

He later earned his master's degree from CSUB.
