BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - California Highway Patrol is hosting a pedestrian safety enforcement operation and cracking down on unsafe practices on the road this week.
During the operation, CHP officers dressed in plain clothes will be crossing the street at two different intersections. One on Roberts Lane at Plymouth Avenue and the other on Niles Street at Park Avenue.
At the same time, uniformed officers will monitor the crosswalk for driver and pedestrians who fail to yield right-of-way.
Drivers and pedestrians stopped during this safety operation may be issued warnings or citations.
The operation is being hosted on Friday in hopes of preventing pedestrian deaths.
So far this year, Bakersfield CHP has experienced eight traffic fatalities, according to officers.
