Jury acquits driver of vehicular manslaughter; convicts on misdemeanor DUI charge

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A jury has found a driver guilty of a misdemeanor DUI after four days of deliberation over the death of a 79-year-old woman in a broadside collision in April 2014.

Keith Andrew Majusiak was found guilty of a misdemeanor DUI while the jury acquitted him of felony gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

On the morning of April 23, 2014, Majusiak, who was 30 years old at the time, collided into the car carrying 79-year-old Joan Zeek on Calloway Drive and Marby Grange Way in Northwest Bakersfield. Zeek was transported to a Los Angeles hospital where she later died of her injuries.

Court documents showed Majusiak had a blood alcohol level of 0.09.

Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 2.
