Early morning structure fire on Union and Calif. Avenues

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - On Tuesday morning around 4:30 a.m., a fire broke out at an abandoned building on Calif. and Union Avenues near Pershing Street.

Bakersfield city firefighters are still on scene putting out the flames.

While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, fire officials say this time of year brings a spike in structure fires due to the homeless population looking for shelter in the colder weather.
