The Bakersfield Police Activities League honored this year's "Hometown Hero" last night.
Canyon Hills Church women's ministries director Cynthia Giumarra was this year's honoree.
Giumarra works with several local organizations to protect women and children from human trafficking.
"I'm passionate about the cause for fighting human trafficking and my passion is only enhanced by the fact that there's hundreds of volunteers in our community that have this same burden I do for this," Giumarra said. "And together we're able to raise funds and make a difference for the organizations that are on the front line actually doing the work."
This is the 16th year for the Bakersfield Police Activities League's "Hometown Hero" dinner.
