Hazmat responds to Patriot Environmental in north Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Kern County Fire responded Wednesday afternoon to a hazardous materials situation at Patriot Environmental. That's at 969 Carrier Parkway in north Bakersfield near James Road.

Responders tell our news crew there that among 30 containers, a lid popped off one of them, then a cloud formed.
Environmental health is on the scene, but it's not been determined yet what the chemical was.
We're told the substance was previously recovered by Patriot Environmental and stored in one of the containers.
But again, it's unknown according to investigators on scene what the substance is.
No evacuations have been issued.
An employee exposed to the chemical was decontaminated, refused service and released.
