BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A local chief deputy has taken the first step of the candidacy process to run for sheriff.
Kern County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Justin Fleeman pulled papers on Tuesday. Fleeman has until Feb. 7 to return the petition with at least 4,973 signatures.
No one will be an official candidate until Feb. 12 when nominations begin.
If Fleeman decides to run, he would be running against Sheriff Donny Youngblood who tells us he is seeking re-election.
Youngblood was first elected in 2006.
