2 Bakersfield men look to complete 5 Ironman-style races in 5 days

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Two Bakersfield men have decided to test their physical and mental strength by completing five Ironman-type races in five days.

Charles Brown and Steve Dalke started their endurance test Monday with a 2.4 mile swim at McMurtrey Aquatic Center at 5:30 a.m., did a 112 mile bike ride and ended each day since with a full marathon that ends in the 5000 block of California Avenue at around 10:30 p.m.

Charles' wife, Kimberly says Charles and Steve compete in endurance events around the country, but wanted to do one of these physical tests closer to home.

Charles is on the board of the Bakersfield Marathon and Steve volunteers for the marathon.

Kimberly says Charles and Steve hope to inspire people to become more fit.

Charles and Steve are expected to finish up their fifth endurance test in as many days Friday night.
