Bakersfield man sentenced in gang shooting case

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A man who has been in prison for over a decade for shooting at a rival gang member was sentenced today.

Bakersfield native Rodney Gupton was convicted in 2001 for shooting at a man and causing him to crash a car into a home.

That conviction was overturned earlier this year and a new trial was ordered. Gupton took a plea deal and was sentenced today to 17 years in prison, but since he has served 16 years already, he will be released next year.
