Bakersfield police sergeant died while getting ready for work

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Bakersfield Police Sgt. Dennis Moore, died Wednesday morning, according to the department. BPD said he was getting ready for work at home when he suffered a major medical event. Police said he was transported to a local hospital where he died at 10:44 a.m. The department hasn't released any information on what the medical condition was. 

According to his LinkedIn page, Moore graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1988.

He worked for the Arvin Police Department before transferring to BPD in 1997. He was promoted to senior officer in 2004 and went on to become a sergeant. 

Moore was married and has three adult children, according to BPD.

Bakersfield Police Officers Association President Ramon Chavez said Moore's death will likely be considered a line of duty death.
