Body found in structure fire in Oildale

Homicide investigation underway after a body was found

Bakersfield, Calif. - The Sheriff's Department is now calling a structure fire in Oildale a homicide investigation.

County firefighters found human remains in a shed that caught fire early Saturday morning in Oildale.

The Sheriff's Department calls the death suspicious.

The coroner has not yet released the person's name or circumstances surrounding the death.

Arson investigators remained on scene through the day.

Kern County Firefighters were dispatched for a report of a person trapped inside a burning shed around 1 this morning in the 200 block of Beardsley Avenue, near Manes Trailer Park.

When crews arrived they found a motor home and shed fully involved in fire.

KCFD reports crews were able to get the fire under control in 10 minutes. But due to arcing power lines, firefighters were unable to search the area until PG&E de-energized the lines.

Crews were then able to search inside the shed where they found the body. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
