BPD arrests two people, cites 27 others during DUI checkpoint

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Two people are behind bars and 27 others were cited during a DUI and driver's license checkpoint in southwest Bakersfield.

The Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Section conducted the checkpoint from 7 p.m. Saturday to 2 this morning in the 8600 block of Ming Avenue, near Gosford Road.
BPD said 1,283 vehicles were screened by officers.
Officers said six drivers were detained to be further evaluated.
Two were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
BPD said 27 drivers were cited for no driver's license or for driving on a suspended license.
Officers said if anyone sees a suspected impaired driver, they are encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911.
