Calvary Bible Church 'Junk-Atique' opening year-round store

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - For more than 20 years, shoppers have lined up early for Calvary Bible Church's annual "Junk-Atique" yard sale to get their hands on furniture, tools, antiques and much more.

Starting Friday, shoppers can shop 'til they drop all year round in the church's new Junk-Atique Outlet.

"There is everything from home stereos, to of course clothing and furniture. We have records," store manager and Calvary Bible Church member Kim Fannon said.

It's a project that has been years in the making.

"I just feel like it's more than a store. We build families coming together and making it happen," church member Desaree Delgado said. "Everyone donating, it's just been great"

All proceeds from the store go directly to mission work locally and globally.

"The end game was to try and do everything that we could to try and help those that are making a difference, make more of a difference," senior pastor Russ Chambers said. "For the Bakersfield Pregnancy Center, Flood, Teen Challenge, which are some of the local partners that benefit from this. We wanted to do everything we could to insure that they never had to say no for something that God laid on their heart to do."

Clothes, shoes, furniture,  you name it, you can probably find it there, but the giant store is offering more than just bargain prices.

"They can come and they can fill their physical needs with some great bargains and that's fun and they can get those necessities," Fannon said. "But also, it can just be a neat place where if they're not real happy that day and they just want someone to talk to, we have a room dedicated just for that where they can just come and visit with someone, just a place to come and feel loved."

The store opens Friday at 9 a.m. at 212 21st Street.
