BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A car went into the canal off Cottonwood Road overnight.
It happened at the T intersection of Cottonwood and Buena Vista Blvd.
CHP and fire crews were called out about 7:20 a.m., Monday but they're unsure what time the car actually went into the canal.
The first thing rescue crews did was search the car to make sure no one was in there. "Any type of technical rescue operation we send our USAR-urban search and rescue vehicle, and that's what we have here today. They're outfitted with specialized equipment and the men and women are trained in this type of rescue," said Captain Jason Knaggs, Bakersfield Fire Department.
The car was empty. CHP says the car was either ditched there or the driver crashed and was able to climb out.
Bump, set, splash.
