Child pornography fugitive captured in Bakersfield appears in court

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Massachusetts fugitive at the center of a manhunt in Bakersfield made an appearance in court Wednesday.

Christopher Goebel is wanted in Massachusets on charges of child pornography.

He was arraigned on local charges of possessing drugs and alcohol while in jail.

Bakersfield police helped U.S. Marshals arrest Goebel on Dec. 30.

Officers tracked Goebel from the La Quinta Inn off Merle Haggard Drive and Highway 99 and later arrested him on Coffee Road.

BPD attempted to arrest an associate of Goebel at La Quinta but say she shot herself in her vehicle as they spoke with her.
