Delano's police chief: Delano PD is not assisting ICE

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Delano's Police Chief is reassuring residents that the department is not assisting Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in a series of raids taking place in Kern County.

In a Facebook post, Delano's interim Police Chief Jerry Nicholson pushed back on rumors that the department was assisting ICE in raids and that ICE agents were using Delano police vehicles and wearing Delano police uniforms.

Nicholson also said Delano police officers are not targeting and making arrests on ICE's behalf.

The police chief also added that the department does not make arrests based on immigration status and urges residents -- regardless of immigration status -- to report crimes to the department for investigation.
