Driver hits and kills pedestrian in east Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Pedestrian safety is an issue we continue to cover for you. 
California Highway Patrol is looking for the driver who hit and killed a pedestrian in east Bakersfield.
The crash happened Friday night on Niles and Virginia Streets.
According to the CHP, a 60-year-old man was in a crosswalk on Niles Street when a driver hit the man and took off. 
There is no description of the car.  Anyone with information is encouraged to call the CHP at 396-6600.
According to our count, there have been 12 pedestrian fatalities on Kern County roadways this year.
