Fire investigators looking for man suspected of arson in Oildale

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Kern County Fire Department is asking for help finding a suspected arsonist. Two fires happened in Oildale within a few hours, about a block apart on El Tejon Avenue. Arson investigators say it wasn't a coincidence.

Firefighters responded just after midnight to the 1100 block of El Tejon Avenue for a detached garage fully involved in flames.

Another fire started around 10 a.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of El Tejon Avenue. Firefighters quickly put out the flames and removed a piece of furniture and a burned floor heater. No injuries were reported.

KCFD Capt. Jason Knaggs said, "Someone was seen leaving this area shortly before initial calls were made to 911."

Arson investigators released a still image of the suspect from a neighbor's surveillance video. Investigators believe Jeremy Silva intentionally set both fires. Fire officials said Silva is 18 or 19 years old.

Knaggs said, "Investigators are urging the public if you see something to make a call, try to get some information, try to make observations about suspicious people in the area and pass that onto authorities.

If you have any information about these fires or you know where know where the suspect is you're urged to call authorities at 1-877-FIRE-TIP.
