Former Congressional candidate Amanda Renteria takes first steps towards gubernatorial run

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Amanda Renteria, former Congressional candidate and current staffer to California's Attorney General, has taken the first steps to run for governor of California according to the California Secretary of State's office.

Renteria filed paperwork to run for the governorship Tuesday.

Renteria currently is a staff member of California Attorney General Xavier Becerra. In a statement to 17 News Wednesday afternoon, Becerra said: "I wish her a great deal of luck. I hired her because I knew she was pretty capable. I hold her in high regard."

Renteria has previously run for office. She ran against, but lost to David Valadao in California's 21st Congressional district in 2014.

Renteria was also a political adviser to Hillary Clinton for Clinton's presidential campaign at 2016.
