Girl hit by car still in critical condition

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A girl who was hit by a car Friday night in southwest Bakersfield is still in critical condition, according to family and friends.

The accident happened around 9:30 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Stockdale Highway and California Avenue. Police said the eleven-year-old girl was crossing California Avenue with a teenager, when she was hit by a vehicle. Witnesses told BPD she crossed the intersection against a red hand signal.

The child was hospitalized over the weekend. Family members have been posting updates on social media, asking for prayers. 

BPD said the girl had died, but family and friends said on social media that she is still in critical condition.

The driver was given a breathalyzer test at the scene, but police haven't said if drugs or alcohol were factors.
