BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A high-speed chase that started near Los Angeles ended Saturday night south of Bakersfield.
La Verne police received a report of a suspicious vehicle. when officers attempted to pull over the red Dodge Challenger with paper plates, the driver took off. Police said he was possibly armed and dangerous.
CHP took over once the driver got on the freeway. He led officers on a high-speed chase up Interstate 5 -- at times speeds topped 100 miles-per-hour.
Once the driver hit Highway 99 south of Bakersfield, local CHP officers were able to deploy a spike strip and flattened three tires but the vehicle kept going with wheels sparking. Officers eventually took the man into custody near Taft Highway.
