Local church without a kitchen following house fire

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A house fire in Oildale left a local church without a place to cook meals for the homeless.

It's known as the Church Without Walls. "Everything we do outside all year round," said Pastor Ben Hanna.

Thursday morning fire destroyed the kitchen the church uses to make meals.

Jeff Clark lived in the house. Clark said, "I went back in the house, in the living room. I heard a popping sound and come back out and it was on fire."

Clark was preparing food for the homeless at this home on Beardsley Avenue when it happened. Leaving the Church Without Walls, without a kitchen.

Hanna said "We don't have anywhere to cook at right now."

Hanna remains optimistic.

"It put us back a little ways, but God's in charge so it's not stopping us. We always come up with something. We'll put on a big pot of beans or something," said Hanna.
