Man sentenced to life in prison for August 2016 murder in Delano

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A Delano man with gang ties was sentenced to spend the rest of his life behind bars for killing another man back in August.

Jose Medrano was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole Friday in a Kern County courtroom for shooting and killing Orlando Morales. Police found Morales dead in a car after it crashed into a building in Delano, and said they initially thought Morales had died from the crash, until they found he had a gunshot wound.

Medrano was convicted of first degree murder for shooting Morales as part of an act of gang violence.
