Bakersfield, Calif. - Some local dog lovers are using this day to encourage people to adopt, not shop, when looking for a new furry friend.
You may remember Jamie Hogie, a Bakersfield native and serious dog-lover. We first introduced you to her two months ago.
Then, she was helping Sarge, a local stray, find a forever-home with an army veteran all the way in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Just six weeks ago, Jamie rescued another little pup - 4-month old Tika - from a garbage bag outside of a convenience store. At the time, the puppy weighed less than a pound.
Jamie now has eight rescues of her own, and says she's helped at least 100 dogs over the last two years.
Through a unique and very passionate group on Facebook, Animal Rescue Networking Group, Jamie and others like herself help change a new dog's life virtually every day. The group has more than ten thousand members.
