Officials identify teen killed in Downtown Bakersfield stabbing

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Officials have identified the teen killed in front of Dagny's coffee shop in Downtown Bakersfield on Friday, March 2. 

Brianna Gabriela Medina, 19, from Tehachapi was stabbed to death near 20th and Eye Streets, according to Kern County coroner.

Bakersfield Police Sgt. Matthew Hilliard told reporters Friday night, that Medina and another woman became involved in a fight at a nearby cafe. One of the women stabbed Medina who died at the scene. 

Sgt. Hilliard said the woman suspected in the stabbing was taken into custody not far from the scene. She has been identified as 21-year-old Miranda Garcia. 

The case against Garcia went back to police for further investigation and she has not been charged. No motive was provided and it wasn't clear what relation the two women had, if any, with one another.
