Police remind residents to remain alert after alleged Panorama Bluffs attack

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Panorama Bluffs is a nice spot for a stroll or a jog, but lately, people have been concerned about the security.

One man posted to the neighborhood social network Nextdoor of an incident Tuesday morning.

He says he was chased and assaulted by two men near the parking lot at River Boulevard and Panorama Drive.

Bakersfield police say the men got away and no arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.

One woman we caught up with out at the bluffs had a few ideas on how to stay safe.

"Self-defense is important. ... But if at all possible don't be alone, be with people!" Caitlin Hashim said.

Bakersfield police agree.

Police officials say you should walk with a companion in well-lit areas and be aware of your surroundings.

The alleged attack is not the only security concern.

Just recently, BPD said car burglaries in the area are up from last year. Police say if you see any suspicious activity, call the non emergency number at 327-7111.
