Public funeral service to be held for BPD Sergeant Dennis Moore

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Public funeral services will be held Thursday for Bakersfield Police Department Sergeant Dennis Moore, officials said.

Sgt. Moore, 47, died after suffering a "major medical incident" Wednesday morning while getting ready for work, according to BPD. He was pronounced dead later that morning after being hospitalized.

Public services will run Thursday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at RiverLakes Community Church at 4301 Calloway Dr., following a police procession at 8 a.m. at Greenlawn Chapel at 3700 River Blvd, BPD said.

According to his LinkedIn page, Sgt. Moore graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1988. Moore worked for the Arvin Police Department before transferring to BPD in 1997. In 2004, Moore was promoted to Senior Officer, before moving on to become a sergeant.

Bakersfield Police Officers Association President Ramon Chavez said Sgt. Moore's death will likely be considered a "line of duty" death.
