Suspect still on loose after hours-long search in Tehachapi

TEHACHAPI, Calif. - A suspect was still on the loose Wednesday afternoon after an hours long search in Tehachapi.

It began around 8:40 a.m. and ended in the 1200 block of Alder Avenue in Tehachapi, the Kern County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy began chasing a vehicle after getting a report that it was stolen, but called off the pursuit after it went near Tompkins Elementary School.

A school official told 17 news they were notified to go on lock down just after the chase began, but the lock down was lifted just before 10:30 a.m.

There were media reports that stated a deputy patrol vehicle was stolen, however, that was not the case, a KCSO official said.

Deputies recovered the stolen vehicle on Alder Avenue and set up a perimeter but did not find the driver.

No arrests were made.
