Search for missing rafter in the Kern River expected to resume Monday

A witness reported seeing a man in a raft go under water and not come back up

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The search for a missing man in the Kern River is expected to resume Monday.

A witness reported Saturday seeing a man in a raft go under water and not come back up.

According to the sheriff's department, the man, believed to be in his 60s, was not wearing a life jacket.

The search and rescue operation began around 7 p.m. Saturday. Crews temporarily suspended the search overnight, but it resumed Sunday morning.

If the man is not found on Monday, ground crews will return again Tuesday, according to KCSO.
