USA-Mexico Arena soccer game coming to Bakersfield in May

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - An arena soccer game between the United States and Mexico National teams is coming to Rabobank Arena next month.

The arena is hosting the exhibition game as the two countries get ready for the 2017 World Minifootball World Cup to be played in Tunisia this summer.

The two teams will take the field at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, May 13 at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield. Tickets for the event go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday at the Rabobank Arena box office or online at www.axs.com .

Team USA General Manager Bernie Lilavois, who also serves as the Team President of the Ontario Fury who play in the Major Arena Soccer League, is looking forward to not only hosting this exhibition but would also like to see a Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) expansion team play in Bakersfield as well.

“I am looking forward to working with Monterrey Productions and the staff at Rabobank Arena to showcase what Arena Soccer is all about and the excitement it brings. Bakersfield is a hotbed for soccer and we are confident that it will be an awesome turnout and feel Bakersfield is ready and a prime market for Professional Arena Soccer,” Lilavois said. “We had tremendous success hosting the MASL International Challenge here in Ontario last year between the US and Mexico and US and Brazil and that has me excited for this game. We had over 7,000 fans come out to see last year’s US-Mexico game, and we expect to top that here in Bakersfield.”

“Rabobank Arena is thrilled to host this exciting matchup between the United States and Mexico,” says Rabobank Arena General Manager Steve Eckerson. “Bakersfield is a city full of soccer fanatics, and we hope this game can be a springboard to professional soccer coming to Kern County and our arena hosting an MASL franchise.”

Tickets for the game start at $10. Group and fundraising tickets will also be available for purchase.
