Woman attacked and stabbed in grape vineyard

On May 5th at about 6:30 pm, an adult female was assaulted while walking in some grape vineyards just east of Scheitlin Road and north of Elmo Hwy, near McFarland.

Kern County Sheriff's Office says the victim was approached by a male suspect and attacked.  During the assault, the suspect knocked her to the ground and stabbed her. The suspect fled the area before deputies arrived. The suspect is described as a male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and possibly a dark colored mask.

The Sheriff's Office would like to remind the public to be aware of their surroundings when they are walking/running in rural areas. When possible, use the "Buddy System" by not walking alone. Report suspicious persons and/or incidents to law enforcement.
