Woman reportedly jumped in Kern River in Oildale

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Search and Rescue was back on the banks of the Kern River searching for a woman who reportedly jumped in the water in Oildale, the Kern County Sheriff's Office said.

KCSO officials said they got a call that a woman had jumped in the water near the Kern River Upland Park, just west of Chester Avenue and north of Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Two callers said the woman was distraught, so they went to find her boyfriend.

The callers said when they came back to the river, a new woman was standing in the same area.

The new woman said the distraught woman jumped in the water near the weir.

"Unfortunately at this point, all three of the potential witnesses have left the scene. It appears they may have been transients, and we are having trouble locating them to verify the information," KCSO Sergeant Steve Williams said.

KCSO said they already used a chopper for the search and scanned the river with binoculars and flashlights.  But, until they verify someone was in distress, they won't be heading into the water.
