Backstage pass: At the ranch of "The Biggest Loser"

Season 15 debuts next week with a lot of changes.
CALABASAS - "The Biggest Loser" returns to NBC next week for its 15th season. And, while the trainers are the same, the way the contestants were chosen is not. And, that's not all that's different.

Just outside Los Angeles sits a sprawling 500 acre ranch where lives are changed.

Now, new contestants have moved into the ranch.

But, for the first time in "Biggest Loser" history, they were hand-picked by the trainers themselves.

"It was hard. If it was up to me I would have chosen everyone. Everyone needs the help, and if I have the gift to help then I want to give it to them," said trainer Dolvett Quince.

"When I was sitting through that interview process I was really looking for those people that were really open and ready to go. But, I was also kind of thinking there's an egg that I'd like to crack," said trainer Bob Harper.

"American Idol" winner Ruben Studdard will take a crack at winning season 15, as the first ever celebrity contestant.

The men and women workout hard up to nine hours a day. But, if all that work doesn't pay off one week their trainer has an opportunity to use a 'save.'

"The fans are gonna love that because they know in their heart who they wanna save. But, who will Bob pick? Who will Jillian pick? Who will I pick?," said Quince.

The contestants began their weight loss journey at the ranch at the end of June. But come October 19th, they'll leave all of it behind and continue their journey at home. Their progress will be measured at the live finale on February 4th.

The trainers check in with the contestants while they're away from the ranch and offer tips and encouragement until the finale.

Season 15 of "The Biggest Loser" debuts next Tuesday, October 8th on KGET.
