Sheriff's deputies were called out to a report of a shooting Wednesday night in east Bakersfield, but they didn't find any shooters or a victim, until Thursday morning.

The Sheriff's department was called out just before 8 a.m. after someone called and reported there was a body lying along their fence line.  Investigators say they were also called out Wednesday night to the same area for a report of a shooting.

Deputies say the man they found Thursday was shot multiple times. Detectives do not know if the two incidents are connected, but are investigating that possibility.

"We're exploring all the different leads in the case and trying to determine exactly what happened," said Senior Deputy Michael Whorf with the Kern County Sheriff's Department.

The victim has been identified as 20 year old Jose Castro Rodriguez. Deputies say there is a possibility that the shooting death is gang related.

Niles between Oswell and Horace Mann was closed while Sheriff's Deputies investigated the scene.

If anyone has information regarding this case, they are encouraged to call the Kern County Sheriff Department at 861-3110 or you can remain anonymous by calling the Secret Witness tipline at 322-4040.
