Bakersfield, CA -- Bakersfield Police say a driver who went off the side of the Westside Parkway early Friday morning was driving under the influence.
The crash was in the same area where two other vehicles have crashed since the highway opened.
It happened around 1:30 Friday morning on the eastbound offramp to Truxtun Avenue, where there are no guardrails. Police say 32-year-old Julio Chavez was drunk and went off the embankment, flipped the car and landed several hundred feet away.
Chavez and his passenger were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. About two weeks ago, the city installed flashing lights to warn drivers of the curve after another vehicle crashed in the same area.
