BAKERSFIELD, CA-- With the touch of a few buttons, diners at Red Robin in the Valley Plaza Mall place their orders using a touch screen system called Ziosk.

Ziosk's Greg Yoder says the device allows servers to spend more time near their customers.

"Every time that a guest needs something that creates you ringing it up at a register,” Yoder said. “You have to leave your section of tables to go do that."

It also gives more control to the customer and for children or the young at heart there are games to play while you wait for the food to come, but there is a fee to play just like at an arcade. When it's time to pay, the process is similar to checking out at a grocery store

"Then you have a choice,” Yoder said. “If I don't want a receipt at all I can hit no receipt. I can e-mail it to myself or I can ahead and print it."

Though the technology might be helpful to staff and customers, Ziosks are not intended to replace humans.

"This can't replace the personality of a server,” Yoder said. “This can't run any food and it can't suggestive sell. It just has pictures on it and does some things the typical register does. Basically there is a little register on every table."
