BAKERSFIELD, CA- World renown conservationist and primatologist Jane Goodall gave a lecture at Bakersfield College Tuesday night.

Her lecture, "Sowing the Seeds of Hope" was a sweeping account of her nearly 6 decades of studying chimpanzees in the wild, and her more recent forays into the world of plants.

She was asked by one reporter what she values most about her work.

"Helping people better understand the true nature of animals. That we're not the only beings with personalities, minds and feelings. These things were laughable when I was going into science and I was told I couldn't talk about the chimps' personalities, minds and emotions because those characteristics were unique to us." said Jane Goodall.

Jane Goodall, who turns 80 this week, has a new book out.

"Seeds of Hope" hit store shelves Tuesday, but its release has been overshadowed by a Washington Post review that found evidence of plagiarism.

Goodall this week apologized, saying she was distressed that some of the sources in her book were not properly cited..
