Local librarian turns 100

One of Bakersfield's finest librarians and BC graduates turned 100 recently.
BAKERSFIELD, CA -- One of Bakersfield's finest librarians and BC graduates celebrated her 100th birthday Saturday. Known in town as "Marian the librarian" Marian Sutliff has not only seen a lot in her life, she continued her education later in life.

She graduated from Bakersfield College in her 70's.  Her children said she returned to school after seeing how much they enjoyed their classes. But often times, Sutliff taught the class a thing or two. "The problem with that was she remembered more about the great depression than her teachers did. And she would say well, it wasn't really like that in 1933 or 34."

"How did I live to be 100? Never drank alcohol. I never smoked."

To celebrate her one hundredth birthday, Sutliff received a proclamation from the mayor and the centennial book.
