Man hit by vehicle in Southeast Bakersfield has died, search underway for car

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A man is dead following a hit and run in Southeast Bakersfield. 
On Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 1: 21 a.m., officers with the Bakersfield Police Department were sent to a report of a person struck by a vehicle in the intersection of Tyree Toliver Street in the East Brundage area of Bakersfield, according to officers.
Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from major injuries. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The car involved fled the scene, officials said. Based on investigation, officers describe the vehicle as a dark-colored compact car with damage to the front passenger side.
The Kern County coroner's office has not released the identity of the victim.
