Man tries to stab police with needle during arrest

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - During a traffic stop Wednesday night in Southeast Bakersfield, a man tried to stab an officer with a needle.

At 6:30 p.m., officers pulled a car over in the 100 block of Liggett Street. When officers searched the car, they found a loaded gun and body armor. 

When officers attempted to arrest one of the vehicle's occupants, Michael Fritz, 36, of Bakersfield, he attempted to stab the officer with a needle.

Fritz was arrested for multiple felony charges including assault on a police officer, gang-related charges and felon in possession of body armor and guns. 

The second occupant, Mary Ochoa, 39, of Bakersfield was also arrested for stolen property, conspiracy and gun charges.

None of the officers involved were injured.
