KCSO seizes loaded gun and methamphetamine during arrest of parolee

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Kern County Sheriff's Gang Unit made two arrests Tuesday morning resulting in the seizure of a loaded gun, methamphetamine and several hundred dollars.

At about 11:30 a.m. sheriff's deputies with the Gang Unit arrested Jose Ayon Navarro, 30, at a business in the 2000 block of Niles Street where he was found with methamphetamine and several hundred dollars. Navarro was the subject of an arrest warrant for violating terms of his parole according to a statement.

Authorities also found a loaded 40-caliber semi-automatic handgun and ammunition in his vehicle.

Deputies then executed a search warrant at Navarro's home where they encountered 42-year-old Matthew Childress in the front yard. Deputies then found two ounces of methamphetamine on Childress violating terms of his parole.

inside the home, deputies found over a pound of methamphetamine, other drug paraphernalia, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and ballistic body armor.

The two men face numerous charges. Navarro was booked on drug and gun charges including possession of drugs and a firearm as a convicted felon. 

Childress was booked on drug charges.
