BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood will attend a news conference Thursday with other local law enforcement leaders to discuss pending gun control ballot initiative being sponsored by Gavin Newsom.
The initiative titled the “The Safety for All Act”, will place restrictions on ammunition sales and retroactively outlaw firearm magazines with a capacity of higher than 10 rounds.
It's awaiting qualification for the November ballot. Nine statewide law enforcement organizations, representing thousands of police officers, deputy sheriff’s, and prosecutors, have voiced concern the proposal will criminalize law-abiding Californians without having any impact on crime or terrorism. That's according to a sheriff's news release.
Contrary to statements made by the Newsom campaign, not one law enforcement organization in California has endorsed the ballot initiative.
The news conference is scheduled for Thursday, June 2, at 11:00 am to the front of the Liberty Bell at 1415 Truxtun Ave. in Bakersfield.
