Police investigate in-custody death at bottom of Bluffs

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Bakersfield police released more information on the in-custody death investigation at the bottom of Panorama Bluffs, along the canal off Manor Street.

The incident happened Monday afternoon around 1:45. At the scene, police told 17 News a woman riding a horse says a man jumped in front of her with a pellet gun.

The women says she recorded video of him, then left to call the cops.

When officers arrived, they found the man laying down with the gun next to him, according to Bakersfield police.

The man was taken into custody, but a few minutes later he became unresponsive.

Officers say an ambulance was called and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and the two officers involved in the arrest have been placed on routine administrative leave, police said.
