Pond Elementary students head to Cross Country Junior Olympics in Florida

The students at Pond Elementary are on their way to Florida for the Junior Olympics, thanks to some generous viewers. When we brought you the story yesterday, the kids needed $7,000 to pay for their trips.

By the end of the day, every penny was accounted for!

All that's left to do is cross our fingers! Good luck to all the runners!

Original story

It's a little school making a big difference, but your help is needed to continue making a difference in the lives of students at Pond Elementary.

The school had 10 students compete and win the Region 14 Junior Olympic Cross Country Championship competition in Fresno last weekend.

With the win they qualified for the National Junior Olympics in Jacksonville, Florida on December 9.

They are the only young athletes in Kern County to qualify, according to coach Humberto Vargas.

The team needs to raise $7,000 to send the students on what could be a once in a life time opportunity.

Some of the money has been raised, but there is still more needed and every little bit helps.

If you would like to help, visit the team's gofundme page.

You can also contact Coach Vargas at 661-792-2545 for questions or additional information.
