In his original budget proposal the Governor wanted to cut $4.4 billion from education.

Thousands of teachers in Bakersfield and across the state will gather to rally for student rights.

Members of the Bakersfield Elementary Teachers Association will hold an event called Day of the Teacher Party in the Park.

It will provide information for anyone who wants to call and write postcards to legislators about the proposed cuts.

As a result of the cuts many teachers in Kern County and across California have received pink slips.

The event takes place at Yokuts Park off Truxtun Avenue from 4 to 7 p.m.
