CHP: Alcohol suspected in Highway 99 crash

BAKERSFIELD, CA- The CHP suspect alcohol was a factor in a major injury crash on northbound Highway 99 Thursday morning.

The CHP responded to the scene at 1:30 a.m near the Highway 58 connector.

Officers said for unknown reasons, Felipe Mendoza,40, of Bakersfield, was driving northbound on I-5 when he went off the road and hit a guard rail.

Mendoza was ejected from the car. He was taken to Kern Medical Center with major injuries.

Officers said they suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
A second accident happened due to the crash near the Ming Avenue exit.

One person was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Mendoza was placed under arrest.
